How can I take care of my pet’s teeth?
Periodontal disease is the most common disease in dogs and cats. The same principles of dental care that apply to us apply to our pets. Regular brushing of your pet’s teeth is probably the best way to maintain dental health. Studies have shown that to really make a difference, you should brush your pet’s teeth at least 3-4 times weekly. It is important to use toothpaste specifically formulated for pets (these are designed to be swallowed). There are also dental treats (like CET® chews) which help your pet’s teeth due to the chewing action involved. In addition, additives in the chews have been shown to help prevent plaque build up. Finally, there are some foods which have been shown to help maintain oral health. Eukanuba® diets have micro-cleansing crystals which help reduce tartar buildup across the entire mouth during and after meals.
